What mortar joint thickness should I use?
The standard mortar joint is 10 mm, which the calculator uses as its typical value. Thicker joints mean fewer bricks per area, while thinner joints mean more. The joint thickness is added to both the length and height of each brick before dividing into the wall area.
How much waste should I add when ordering bricks?
A waste allowance of 5% to 15% is typical, covering cuts, breakage, and handling losses. Use around 5% to 10% for simple straight walls and up to 15% for walls with many corners, openings, or decorative patterns that require cutting. Ordering a small surplus avoids delays from running short mid-project.
Does the calculator include bricks for both sides of a wall?
It calculates bricks based on the wall area you enter, treating it as a single leaf (one brick thick). For a double-leaf or cavity wall, calculate each leaf separately or double the area. Always confirm the wall thickness your design requires before ordering.
